I know Hair Lingo can be tricky, everyone is just feeling comfortable incorporating Balayage into their vocabulary- and now you’re trying to add in new words like Rows, Wefts, Mini’s, Hand Tied - ALL OF IT - it’s a lot to understand and the lingos is changing so fast… I totally get it! That’s why I have to take so much education my friend~ it’s a lot to keep up on! So I’m here to break it down in a way that I like to break it down for my clients.

So first - here are some general terms & definitions so we are up to speed.

Hand Tied Hair / Wefts - this is NOT a method of extensions. It’s a product of hair, that is attached to a METHOD. I shared last season what Hand Tied Hair means so if you still are wondering, What’s hand tied hair extensions? I’d recommend this read first!

Side Bar, just real fast…If you are looking to get extensions and have handed hair used - ask the stylist, “What Method are you using to install it?”

The Method is determined how the extensions are ATTACHED TO YOUR HAIR.

Beaded Row / Row / Track - NBR’s unique bead and string system uses minimal beaded contact with your natural hair and has a long string that runs between each bead.

I choose this system because of the minimal points of contact with your natural hair. It means minimal damage.

The handed hair is whats stitched to the Natural Beaded “Row”, aka -NBR method, along the string between each bead.

Mini - A mini, or in numerical value, .5 A Mini is exactly what it sounds like, it’s a MINI ROW. He’s a small row, with a HUGE impact on how well your natural hair and extension hair blend. It’s A little filler row to blend short to long. For example, If you have shorter hair and are adding length - you’ll need X amount of rows AND a mini.

BOOM! - Now, let’s talk about how many Rows & Mini Rows you may need!

1 Row: to add thickness to your current length and fill in the corners + sides of your hair.

1.5 - You’ll need 1 Row AND a Mini. Lol - right, because you want to fill in your current length with 1 Row, but you have some short layers in the back, and you need to blend them! + a Mini.

~see you’re picking up really fast!

2-2.5 Rows: This is where we can do everything we did with 1 Row and now we can add the length and thickness you want. Most clients get 2-2.5 Rows.

3 Rows: This is A LOT OF HAIR my friend. It’s typically only necessary for those who already have extremely THICK hair, and we need to match that same density in order to add length.

I hope this helps you understand where you might land in terms of Rows of NBR. If you know you want length - you’re talking 2 - 2.5 Rows. If your length is fine, but it’s not as think and full as you’d like it to be, you’re most likely sitting in the 1-1.5 range.
